Explorer Route One

There is a huge amount going on all across town at the moment. You may have noticed some new routes being created, but not realised that we are actually creating four cross-town routes all linked to the Promenade, going past numerous schools, colleges, Bloomfield Road stadium, the town centre and Stanley Park.

The Explorer Routes will provide a useful network of cycle routes that will be suitable for a wide range of cyclists, and will also feature some very new and innovative features designed to provide a safe environment for cyclists whilst improving the area for pedestrians and residents.

Explorer routes

Complete all works on Route 1 (Nov 10)

Finish routes 3 (Dec 10)and 4 (Oct 10)

Build route 2 following agreement of design of Central Drive/Reads Ave/Chapel St junction. (Oct 10)

BMX cycle track

We are currently awaiting the consideration of our planning application for the BMX cycle track and if successful we will be linking up with a specialist track builder to provide Blackpool with a National-standard BMX race track. The freestyle area in Stanley Park will also be enhanced.

Town Centre Access - improving cycling access and parking. Linked to Route 3 works

BMX Pump track

A small, fun play track on the edge of Mereside has been looked at and we are currently awaiting formal planning permission.

Other improvements

Public Rights of Way improvements linked to LTP programme

Cycle signage

Links to Streetlighting PFI work - Advanced Stop Lines
