Travel Plans
If you are cycling to work your employer can help you by developing a workplace travel plan that addresses your issues and develops cycle friendly facilities such as secure cycle parking.
Many organisations have a travel plan designed to promote cycling by raising awareness of its benefits and making it an easier travel choice for staff and visitors.
Cycle friendly facilities and promotional events such as cycle to work days encourage people to give it a go and rediscover the pleasures of cycling. The organisation benefits by having healthier staff, less parking problems and a reputation as a responsible employer helping staff to reduce the costs and stresses of driving to work.
Companies committed to being environmentally friendly find developing a travel plan builds on their corporate values. Travel plan measures will reduce carbon emissions and traffic congestion meaning safer and less polluted roads.
Comments from people who cycle to work:
"It keeps me fit and I love the route I take through Stanley Park."
"I work close so quicker and better for the environment."
"It helps me to stress out after a very busy day at work."

How Cycle Blackpool can help
Cycle Blackpool wants to help companies promote cycling and provides the following resources:
• A workplace cycle grant to spend on cycle storage and other cycle friendly facilities such as showers and changing rooms. It works on a matched funding basis by contributing 50% towards the total cost of expenditure.
• Free on site cycle skills training run by qualified trainers. Courses can be tailored to meet the needs of all users and will especially benefit new cyclists by increasing their confidence on the roads with instructor led rides.
• Help with events including promotional material, displays and the services of Dr Bike, a qualified bike technician doing safety checks including adjusting brakes, lubricating chains and fixing punctures.
Employers who are interested in the cycle grant scheme or would like advice on how to develop a Travel Plan should contact the Travel Plans Officer by phone on 01253 476330 or email travel.plans@blackpool.gov.uk
