Bikeability
Bikeability is the 'cycling proficiency' for the 21st Century. The national standard developed by more than 20 professional organisations and supported by Government departments.
Bikeability will teach kids good riding technique and habits to ensure they are safer whilst having more fun on their bikes - whether riding around with friends, learning some new tricks or even aiming for Olympic gold!
Blackpool has a team of qualified cycle trainers who visit schools across the Fylde helping young people to feel more confident by teaching them confident cycling. During each academic year, every Year 5 child is offered Bikeability in Blackpool for no charge and hundreds of adults are also taking a small step to active travel and making a big difference on the roads.
During the Easter holidays, we are offering FREE child Bikeability training at Palatine Leisure Centre, on Wednesday 11th April. The course is for children aged 9 and above lasting all day from 9:30 - 15:00 so a packed lunch is required.
Training will take place off road on the new Palatine cycling track and on quiet local roads, aiming to achieve Bikeability Level 2 for all. Children need to able to ride a bike, as this course will teach on-road cyclecraft, not basic riding skills. A booking form is below, which allows you to book one child. Once your form has been received by us, we will check availability and you will be required to complete and sign a consent form. Only once this form is completed will your places be confirmed.
Also available is the FREE parent and kids course taking place on Thursday 12th April when mums or dads can have fun with their children and learn together. From 9:30am until 15:00 at the Palatine cycle track. To book a place email cycling@blackpool.gov.uk
