Blackpool Youth Cycling Club
Blackpool Youth Cycle Association (BYCA)
BYCA is a great cycle club for young riders aged between 8 - 18 years.
Registered as a British Cycling Go-Ride Club it aims to provide a safe friendly environment for young riders to develop their skills and meet new friends.
The club meets on alternate Saturdays near the Clock Tower in Stanley Park between 10.00 and 12.00. Cycling activities range from learning new skills and riding around a course set up in the park, to learning how to ride in a group or doing a time trail around the athletics track.
What ever level your cycling is BYCA can offer something new and exciting.
The club also has a stock of bikes for members who don't have access to a suitable bike. These bikes can be used either for the Saturday meetings or at youth races in the North West. Other advantages members have are discounted, good quality, cycling shorts and tops and great trips to cycling venues such as the Manchester velodrome.
All BYCA coaches and volunteers are CRB checked and the coaching is conducted in a safe, traffic free environment. A helmet must be worn at all times.
BYCA and Blackpool Council host regular 'family rides' normally using off road cycle paths to introduce new and returning (mum and dad) cyclists.
The club also has regular club rides of varying length which does involve riding on the roads. This is a great way of developing a budding cyclist whether they want to race or just go for longer rides. Most will involve a 'café stop' for refreshments.
For club rides young riders must have undergone some cycle training such Bikeability and under 12's must be accompanied by an adult.
Some of our members enjoy racing in road, track and cyclo-cross events and the BYCA name is being seen on more and more result sheets.
Bikeability training can be provided for both children and adults by Blackpool Council's qualified Cycle Trainers -
